Roads and bridges hit by various natural disasters last year are getting repairs courtesy of the federal government. In a Jan. 9 press release, the Department of Transportation announced nearly $1.6 billion in funding.
For New York, that means $67,313,472 for damage caused by Hurricane Irene, and $22,437,824 for damage caused by Tropical Storm Lee. New Jersey is slated to receive $89,186,056 for Hurricane Irene, Tropical Storm Lee and other flooding, and Connecticut $51,553,691 for Hurricane Irene and Storm Alfred.
According to the release: "This money will reimburse states for fixing or replacing highways, bridges and other roadway structures. Costs associated with detours, debris removal and other immediate measures necessary to restore traffic flow in impacted areas are also eligible for reimbursement."
