Society Facilitates Post-Irene & Lee Relief
Many NYSSCPA members and nonmembers alike -- especially in the Adirondacks and around Binghamton -- are still reeling from the aftereffects of Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee, which battered the East Coast at the end of August and early September.
Beyond the deadly flooding and mass power outages, the storm will likely be counted in the top ten costliest storms in history at $7 to $10 billion in damages, reported the New York Times. Gov. Andrew Cuomo estimated that roughly $1 billion of that total amount will be born upstate, a region which was hit particularly hard by the flooding, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Need a Hand, Lend a Hand
Offices were flooded, computer equipment was put out of commission and files were ruined, as well as other issues that are still being dealt with. If you're seeking help or want to offer a helping hand, join the conversation.
Perhaps you have access to temporary office space or you have extra office supplies you can spare? Or maybe you have experience with insurance claims and you’re willing to share your expertise? Let us know.
If you need or would like to offer advice, guidance or other resources to help affected members and nonmembers in need, please leave a comment below. You may remain anonymous or include your contact information.
And don’t forget to visit the Society’s website for more information about Hurricane Irene relief resources, including newly released NYC tax information.
